Molasses Pumpkin Pie

Classic pumpkin pie with molasses.

  • 1 16 oz. can canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 1/4 cup Brer Rabbit® Full Flavor Molasses (Can substitute with light molasses)
  • 2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 eggs (beaten)
  • 1 1/2 cups milk or light cream
  • 1 9 inch pastry crust (unbaked)
  • whipped cheese topping or whipped cream (for garnish)


In bowl, blend pumpkin, brown sugar, molasses, spice and salt. Beat in eggs and milk or light cream. Pour into prepared pastry crust. Bake at 400 degrees for 50 to 55 minutes or until pie is puffed and firm in center. Shield pie crust edges with foil during last 20 minutes of baking to prevent overbrowning. Serve warm or cold with Whipped Cheese Topping or whipped cream. Whipped Cheese Topping: Blend 3 ounces softened cream cheese, ½ cup confectioners’ sugar, ¼ cup heavy cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon grated orange peel until smooth. Chill until serving time. Makes 8 servings.
